The peace of the
world starts from the cradles of the
children at home for all the systems
of education. Particularly for children,
the most popular and the best-suited
educational system is Dr.Maria Montessori's system
of education.
The Montessori is
very popular in North America, Canada,
Western Europe and in other advanced
countries of the world.
Though similar type
of Montessori system exists in different
forms in India, the Montessori system
has not become popular in India, though
Dr.Maria studied and sloped her educational
system practically in India and wrote
many of her theories in the form of
books when she was in India during Second
World War.
Dr.Maria
Montessori books deal both with
the fundamental principles and special
aspects of her work. This covers a field
much vaster than that of child education
and is no longer a matter of concern
for teachers and parents only, but rises
a question concerning mankind as a whole.
It is based on series of genuine discoveries.
When she started her work in the field
of education and child psychology, she
had already gained fame as the first
woman to obtain a doctor's degree in
medicine and surgery in her country
Her, scientific
training and experience where therefore,
exceptionally broad- based remains,
even today, quiet unique among educationists.
The Montessori Method itself covers
the whole development, of man from birth
to adulthood. Its application among
all social classes, cultures and creeds
on all the five continents, most of
which Dr.Montessori visited herself,
provided her with a uniquely vast field
of experimentation and with confirmation
of the validity of her discoveries. THE DIRECTOR GENERAL
of UNESCO could therefore, declare
that it had and still has fundamental
influences on all modern methods of
education directly as well as indirectly.
The work has grown
steadily in all its branches. Dr.Montessori's work has gradually assumed the dimensions
of a social movement based on the child
as a personality of immense value for
social and human uplift. Especially
in our times, the most important contribution
is, perhaps, that it focuses attention
on the fact that no attempt to solve
social and moral problems will succeed
if it concentrates only on man-the -
adult and his activities and not on
the whole man and it is the young child
who determines man's future as an adult
member of society. How he does so, how
he can be helped to do so and what will
be the consequences of negligence or
misguidance during this decisive period
of human life?
Peace is the vital
question for the world today. Dr.Montessori has shown the great role of the child
as the builder of the inner foundations
on which alone, Peace can be built.
No doubt, Modern Education needs a holistic
approach in teaching. During the pre-independence
years of India 1936 - 1941, a school
teacher inspired a little boy in Rameswaram
to reach for the stars. When he taught
his class how the birds fly, he took
his students to the ocean to make them
observe the seagull.
Dr.A.P.J.Abdul
Kalam, doyen of Indian Science,
who has been the guiding light the country's
space programmer has reinvented a role
for himself.Today, he has taken up cause
of inspiring the youth to pursue a career
in science, and travels extensively
to far-flung corners of the country,
especially the underdeveloped regions,
to meet children, strict with them and
share their dreams. No wonder this village
boy was elevated to highest post of
The President of India.
According to Dr.A.P.J.Abdul
Kalam, the first scientist of
this planet is one butra, the teacher’s
role is very noble and his work should
not end in the classroom, but old extend
to that of a mentor, guide and philosopher
to his wards. The teacher must love
his profession, inculcate values, as
sense of dedication in his wards and
inspire them. These ideas of Dr.A.P.J.Abdul
Kalam are more or less similar to the
principles of Dr.Maria
Montessori.
There are many theories
of education, every body talks about
educational pattern, curriculum, syllabus
and everyday we also see new theories
of education are enunciated by different
educationalists.
Indeed, education
is the foundation, super structure and
the glittering power of progress and
prosperity of mankind. Education enriches
and enables the mind and purifies heart
and leads to the perfection of soul-it
is the mother of joy-it is an ever ending
wealth- it plays the main role in man's
life from cradle to grave. If we want
to have a prosperous, progressive, peaceful
society, we should have good education,
for which the foundation should be laid
at earliest childhood of humanity.
